1K a year 14 hours ago 14 hours ago 14 hours ago Construction Observer Summary Construction Observer is responsible for daily inspection efforts on complex and/or diverse projects that require construction experience in roadways, bridges, utilities, grading, and/or drainage.
Duties include observing work quality, materials, and workmanship used on various Public Works construction projects, ensuring conformance with approved plans, specifications, and contract documents, maintaining records, and preparing project observation reports.
Roles and Responsibilities Monitors the work of contractors and third-party inspectors to ensure quality control and contract compliance for roadway, structure, and bridge construction projects of moderate to considerable complexity Provides general observation on all construction labor and subcontracted tasks to ensure professional workmanship Recognizes basic construction or engineering problems, recommends changes to construction plans to meet field conditions; makes field measurements of pay items; maintains and reviews comprehensive project records, including daily diaries, materials notebooks, as-built plans, pay quantity records, progress schedules, and monthly estimates Frequent external contact with contractor personnel to schedule and coordinate project inspection and resolve problems Frequent contact with Engineers and Surveyors to discuss and resolve field construction issues Monitors contractor's operations to ensure compliance with contract terms and specifications Job Requirements 1-2 years construction-related experience as a construction observer Working knowledge of LA DOTD Site Manager Program preferred LA DOTD Certified Technician Program Certifications preferred Have a VALID and CURRENT Driver's License and clean driving record.
Physical ability to work with hand tools.
Ability to stand and operate inspection equipment for at least two hours without a break.
Ability to carry 30 pounds of equipment and supplies.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
