Summary:
As a Laborer in Wastewater Maintenance, you will play a critical role in the operation, maintenance, and repair of wastewater treatment facilities and associated infrastructure.
Your primary responsibility will be, to ensure the efficient and safe operation of equipment and processes involved in wastewater treatment, collection, and disposal.
Duties/
Responsibilities:
Regularly inspect and maintain wastewater mains and lines to ensure proper functionality.
This includes cleaning and flushing to prevent blockages and performing repairs as needed.
Additionally, conduct weed abatement activities to clear drains, channels, and ditches, facilitating efficient water flow.
Assist with the installation, repair, and replacement of manholes within the wastewater collection system.
Additionally, perform upgrades to existing manholes as necessary to improve system performance.
Utilize a variety of equipment and tools to perform maintenance and construction tasks on the wastewater collection system.
This includes operating hand tools, power tools, and heavy machinery safely and efficiently to complete assigned projects.
Perform routine maintenance on lift and pumping stations to ensure proper functionality.
This includes inspecting equipment, conducting preventive maintenance measures, and troubleshooting issues to ensure uninterrupted operation of pumps and associated systems.
Conduct thorough cleaning of sewer lines to remove debris and blockages that may impede flow.
Utilize specialized equipment to effectively clear obstructions and maintain the integrity of the sewer system.
Assist in the installation and inspection of new service connections to the wastewater system.
Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees, and the public, using principles of good customer service.
Undertake additional tasks and responsibilities as directed by supervisors to support the efficient operation of the wastewater maintenance department.
This may include assisting with emergency response efforts, participating in training programs, or performing administrative duties as needed.
Job
Qualifications:
Proficient in operating, maintaining, and safely handling equipment and machinery essential for wastewater maintenance tasks.
This includes familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and heavy machinery.
Ability to work independently, while performing a variety of maintenance tasks and construction activities.
Comfortable engaging in manual labor, including shoveling and digging, as part of routine maintenance duties.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Willingness to work outdoors and in various weather conditions.
Must be 18 years of age and possess a valid driver's license.
Education/
Experience:
High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency.
Prior experience in wastewater treatment, plumbing, or related field preferred, but not required.
